This is among my very favorite pieces anywhere. The father paints the distant vision with outstretched hand. The son rapt, eyes glued to dad, worshipful. The sweet, carefree little girl & her dog. And momma: Grounded, practical, knowing. She recognizes the vision, she's heard it many times before. But her concern is more immediate. "What can I prepare for supper?" barely crowding out, "How in God's name will I keep these children alive in this wasteland?"
PIONEER'S VISION
Come along with me towards this vision I see.
It's a vision I have for this land.
From sweat and toil, from our seeds in the soil
Will grow roots where a nation will stand.
