(5/13/2007) Address: 1825 Georgia Ave NW Nearest Metro: U Street/African-Amer Civil War Memorial (Green) (dcMem ID #1860) More pictures of this attraction ![]() 25th NY Vol Cav Monument: Dedicated in 1914, this memorial honors those men of the 25th NY Volunteer Cavalvry who died in the fighting around Fort Stevens on July 11-12, 1864. Life-size Union Army Cavalry officer atop 6' h pedestal. Soldier carries musket over L shoulder, drawn sword in R hand, scabbard on L hip. W side has info in bas-relief w/bronze dedication plaque. Southernmost of four memorials. West face: "Sacred to the memory of our comrades/ who gave their lives in defense of the/ national capitol July 11, 1864" "Erected by the State of New York in honor of the 25th N.Y.
